Indochino Alterations: Allowances, Deadlines and Fit Checks

How Indochino’s showroom and local-tailor routes differ, the published reimbursement limits, claim deadlines and fit lessons from Lorenz’s archive.

Start with the correction route, not the tailoring bill

If an Indochino suit arrives with a fit problem, photograph it and read the fit-help policy promptly. Showroom assistance and local-tailor reimbursement have different steps. Paying for an alteration first and asking about eligibility later is an avoidable risk.

The showroom instructions say to visit within 14 days of receiving the garments, with swing tags attached, by scheduling a Final Look appointment. If appointments are unavailable, contact the branch or Customer Experience. The company does not describe an automatic extension in that page.

Buyers who are not near a showroom are told to contact Customer Experience within 14 days to open a claim. The team then supplies a receipt deadline. For showroom purchases, the reimbursement instructions direct you to the in-house Final Look route.

The local-tailor allowances

These are maximum reimbursements for eligible online-order alterations, not prices a tailor is obliged to charge. The official table was checked on 10 October 2026.

Maximum local alteration reimbursement, by garment and currency
GarmentUSDCADAUD
Two-piece suit$75$75$100
Three-piece suit$100$100$120
Jacket or blazer$50$50$65
Trousers$25$25$35
Shirt$25$25$30
Vest$25$25$20
Outerwear$50$50$65

The fit-help page limits claims to purchases made directly through Indochino in Canada, the United States and Australia. For the online route, you also need to meet the claim and receipt instructions.

Ask the tailor for a quote. If it exceeds the allowance, Indochino says not to proceed and to contact Customer Experience about an alternative. There is no automatic top-up in the published instructions.

What to submit for reimbursement

Send the itemised receipt and tailor’s form by the deadline you receive. The receipt needs the business name, address and date; fully handwritten receipts are not accepted under the fit-help instructions. Keep the quote as well as the final invoice.

The reimbursement page says payment is returned through the original purchase method. If you paid with a gift card, reimbursement is issued as an Indochino gift card. That is an alteration reimbursement, not a refund of the custom garment.

If the instructions you receive do not match the published pages, ask the team to clarify the deadline and eligibility in writing before having work done.

Tell the tailor what happens when you move

A sleeve that looks a little long is a different problem from shoulders that restrict movement. Before suggesting a fix, wear the shirt and shoes you intend to use with the suit. Stand naturally, sit down, walk and check the back in a mirror or video.

My own preferences have changed since the early Indochino orders. I want a close fit without restriction, and training has made some older shirts too tight at the shoulders and biceps. That is a reason to describe the movement problem rather than asking for everything to be made slimmer.

Ask what the tailor can change on this particular garment. Available cloth, seams and construction affect the answer. This guide does not label every sleeve, trouser or shoulder problem as an easy fix, and it does not replace an in-person assessment.

A collar gap I missed in the mirror

In my October 2013 collar-gap article, I described an Essential Charcoal suit I thought fitted well until I saw a video of myself wearing it. There was a gap between the jacket collar and shirt collar at the back. Seeing the suit from another angle changed my assessment.

That is a historical example, not a test of today’s Indochino pattern or showroom staff. It still gives me a useful check: inspect the back of the jacket in normal posture before deciding the fit is finished. A photograph or video can show what the front-facing mirror misses.

The original article does not record a confirmed final repair. Take a similar problem to the fitter and ask them to assess the collar, shoulders and jacket balance together.

Keep the measurement changes with the order

The 2010 measurement article records a confusing display of submitted and interpreted measurements at the time. Its June 23 update says the display had changed again. It is not evidence that the same issue exists today.

The practical lesson is to retain a record of what you submitted, what was altered and what was agreed for the next order. If the tailor changes the trousers, ask whether your saved profile needs updating. A corrected garment and a corrected ordering profile are not automatically the same thing.

If the tailor says it cannot be fixed

Stop before authorising work that may not solve the problem. Indochino’s non-alterable garment process asks for front, side and back photographs and a short fit description within the claim period. Customer Experience then assesses the resolution.

A remake is not guaranteed by that page. Explain what the tailor found, ask what happens next and tell the team about any event deadline. Do not rely on another buyer’s remake turnaround for your own order.

Collect completed showroom alterations promptly

The fit-help page asks for collection within 14 days of the alterations being complete and describes follow-up contact. It says garments abandoned at the showroom for 30 days may be disposed of or donated at the company’s discretion. Keep an eye on the email address and telephone number attached to the order.

There is no universal alteration turnaround quoted here. Ask your branch or tailor for its current estimate, and make time to try the garment on again when the work is finished.

Before the next order

Try the corrected suit in ordinary movement, record the changes and settle the saved profile before repeating the order. There is little value in ordering three more garments around a fit you have only accepted for five minutes.

For the wider buying decision, read the current Indochino review. The showroom guides help with the return trip, and the offers page keeps verified promotions separate from the fit process.
